These scales are part of my From the Workbench Collection—a series of one-off sets created while exploring new materials, machining techniques, and finishing approaches in the shop.

🔷 About This Set
Material: Bubinga Wood
Fitment: Knafs Lander 2
Finish: CNC machined, sealed, and hand-finished
This set was machined from bubinga hardwood, known for its rich reddish-brown coloring, flowing grain patterns, and dense feel in hand.
The natural variation throughout the wood gives these scales a warm organic appearance that contrasts beautifully with the industrial feel of the Lander platform.
This set was part of my early exploration into machining hardwood scales on the CNC and adapting tooling paths, feeds, and finishing techniques for natural wood materials.
To help protect the wood and enhance the natural depth of the grain, the scales were finished with multiple coats of clear finish, giving them a durable polished shell with a smooth feel in hand.
✋ Contoured for Comfort
These scales are not completely flat.
A subtle contour was machined into the outer surfaces to soften the edges and improve comfort in hand during use while maintaining the slim carry profile of the Lander 2.
⚙️ How They’re Made
Each set goes through a hands-on process in my Utah shop:
• Material selected and oriented for best grain appearance
• CNC machined for accurate fit and clean geometry
• Carefully hand-finished to enhance depth and color
• Multiple coats of clear finish applied for protection and polish
• Subtle contouring added for improved ergonomics
• Matched as a left/right set
No mass production—just focused, small-batch craftsmanship.
🔩 Hardware Compatibility
These scales were designed with a shoulder hole height that lands in the middle of the various Lander hardware combinations.
Because screw lengths can vary slightly between different Lander models and hardware revisions, these scales were designed to work with as many combinations as possible.
In the event your existing hardware is slightly too long or too short, replacement hardware kits are available directly from Knafs.
